Considering how long he was confined for, Eamonn was pretty amiable most of the way. He did start to get a bit upset about 90km from Trier, so we pulled off trying to find water. I had gotten two bottles at the start of our supposed-to-be-relatively-short-journey, but they weren't enough. After a couple of Liga biscuit bribes the little man was getting pretty thirsty! Once we left Holland, though, the roadside stops with the big service/grocery stations were no longer in existence. At this point Eamonn had shouted himself hoarse and we were desperate. We finally found a hotel with a restaurant somewhere in rural Germany. Between my very little (ok, none) German and the waitress having very little English, we managed to get a couple of bottles of water. But, evidently, when you ask for bottled water in Germany, you get mineral water which is very fizzy. I tried shaking it up to get it to go flat, but it was still pretty fizzy. Eamonn wasn't caring - he wanted a drink and he wanted it now. He took a big sip and let out the most enormous burp, which probably wasn't a bad thing because we'd been going up and down in and out of valleys and his ears were maybe a bit stopped up. He had a big smile after the belch as well. I think he was pretty proud of himself.
